April | Ultimo Public School Strengthens Community Connections Through Local Partnership

Ultimo Public School has long been a cornerstone of its local community, bringing together families, educators and students in the heart of the inner city. This year, the school has strengthened those connections further through a major sponsorship partnership with Morton Real Estate – Pyrmont, supporting initiatives that enhance learning, communication and community engagement.

Working closely with the school’s P&C, the partnership has enabled several important projects to come to life. These include the development of a new school website and landing page, updated school signage, production of the annual yearbook, and sponsorship of the school’s reading corner, helping to promote literacy and a love of learning among students. It’s also worthwhile highlighting Morton’s contribution toward Ultimo Public School’s Reading Corner initiative. Community members are encouraged to support the school’s library, with donations helping expand the Graphic Novel collection and inspire a lifelong love of reading. Contributions can be made at Union Square during the Sydney Streets event on Harris Street.

The school has also benefited from support for key community events, including the fundraising day held in March at Wentworth Park Greyhounds, which brought families together while raising funds for future programs. Looking ahead, support has also been confirmed for the school’s upcoming “150 Years” assembly in May, celebrating Ultimo Public School’s rich history and future.

Speaking at the school, Morton Pyrmont representative Ian Qiu highlighted why supporting local schools’ matters. “It takes a village to raise a child,” he said, acknowledging the strong sense of collaboration that defines Ultimo Public School. He also recognised the dedication of the school leadership and P&C, noting their commitment to students and families.

As Ultimo and Pyrmont continue to grow, schools like Ultimo Public School play a vital role in shaping strong, connected communities. “Strong schools create strong communities,” Ian said, adding that the school is not just a place of learning, but “a vibrant, engaged, family‑centred community” for both current and future residents.

The partnership reflects a shared, long‑term vision: to continue supporting school programs and events that have a lasting impact for students, families and the wider neighbourhood. Ultimo Public School remains at the heart of the community it serves, and with the support of local partners, it continues to grow, thrive and connect generations of families.
