February | Morton Team Members Step Up to Support Sydney City Salvos

Two members of the Morton sales team – Christian Postiglione from our Woolloomooloo office and Catherine Lawler from our Crows Nest office – recently dedicated their time to support the incredible work happening at Sydney City Salvos in Surry Hills. Their volunteer shift took place at the organisation’s welcoming dropin centre on Derby Lane, a space known for offering essential support to individuals sleeping rough or facing various forms of vulnerability.

Operating from 9:00am to 3:30pm, the centre serves as a vital hub where people can find safety, connection, and practical assistance. Christian and Catherine joined the volunteer team to help create a warm, supportive environment for everyone who walked through the door. Even a few hours of help can make a meaningful difference at the centre, and their contribution was deeply appreciated.

Throughout the day, both volunteers assisted with preparing and serving the lunchtime meal, a daily highlight for many community members. They also helped welcome visitors with hot drinks, offering comfort and creating a sense of belonging from the moment people arrived.

Beyond food service, Christian and Catherine supported essential behindthescenes tasks including sorting donations in the Op Shop and organising items within the Food Pantry. These activities ensure the centre can continue providing clothing, groceries, and daily necessities to those who need them most.

A particularly meaningful part of the experience was spending time connecting with community members through games and creative activities. These small moments of conversation and companionship help foster relationships and boost the wellbeing of visitors who may otherwise feel isolated.

Reflecting on the day, Christian shared:
“Volunteering is something I really value. It’s really rewarding to give back to the community I work in every day and to feel like I’m contributing in a meaningful way.”

Christian and Catherine’s involvement is a fantastic example of how giving even a small amount of time can create a significant positive impact. Their generosity, compassion, and willingness to contribute reflect the values we hold close at Morton.
