January | Building Community Through Care: Our Experience at Hamper Gifting Day

At Morton, we believe community is something we actively build – through showing up, supporting one another, and contributing where it matters most. Last December, our Penrith team had the privilege of taking part in Anglicare’s Hamper Gifting Day at Penrith Anglican Church, an event that brought joy, dignity, and relief to local families during the holiday season.

Our team joined volunteers, families, and community partners, helping transform the church into a warm and welcoming space. Being part of this day allowed us to see firsthand the impact that thoughtful, practical support can have on families doing it tough.

Hamper Gifting Day is about more than handing out gifts; it’s about creating a positive, uplifting experience for every family who walks through the door. Throughout the day, our team helped set up and pack down the event, making sure the space was organised, inviting, and ready for the steady flow of visitors. We guided families through the gift selection process, helping them choose items that suited their needs and preferences, and offering friendly conversation along the way.

Gift wrapping was another highlight, with our team adding those small but meaningful finishing touches that turn a simple item into something special. Most importantly, we focused on creating an atmosphere where families felt respected, supported, and valued.

Reflecting on the experience, Mitchell from the Penrith team shared, “Being part of Hamper Gifting Day was incredibly rewarding. Spending time with my colleagues while supporting families in need reminded me how powerful it is when we come together with purpose. It was a privilege to share the day with both the team and the community.”

Being part of Hamper Gifting Day reminded us how important it is to stay connected to the communities we work in. Showing up, lending a hand, and offering genuine care can make a real difference – both for the families we support and for our team.
