May | ROAR: Building Community Spirit in Washington Park, Riverwood

In the heart of Riverwood’s Washington Park community, a grassroots movement is making a big difference. ROAR (Residents Organisation At Riverwood) is a not-for-profit group led by local residents who are passionate about fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and connected neighbourhood.

Founded with the goal of strengthening community ties, ROAR organises regular events that celebrate the area’s rich cultural diversity and promote social inclusion. From multicultural festivals to community clean-ups and family-friendly gatherings, ROAR’s calendar is always full of opportunities for residents to come together, share stories, and build lasting relationships.

One of the most beloved traditions supported by ROAR is the weekly Friday night BBQ. Held in the heart of Washington Park, this event has become a cornerstone of community life. It’s more than just a meal—it’s a space where neighbours become friends, newcomers feel welcome, and everyone has a chance to unwind and connect at the end of the week.

Morton Real Estate’s Riverwood office is proud to have played a key role in sustaining the Friday BBQs for the past five years. Their financial contributions help cover the cost of food and supplies, ensuring that the event remains free and accessible to all members of the community.

“We’re proud to support ROAR and the incredible work they do,” said Nada Fayad, sales agent from Morton Real Estate Riverwood. “The Friday BBQs are a fantastic example of how small acts of kindness and community spirit can have a big impact.”

ROAR’s mission extends beyond events. The organisation also advocates for local issues, encourages civic participation, and provides a platform for residents to voice their ideas and concerns. Their inclusive approach ensures that everyone—from long-time locals to newly arrived families—feels heard and valued.

As Riverwood continues to grow and evolve, ROAR remains a vital part of the community fabric. Their work reminds us that strong communities aren’t built by chance—they’re built by people who care, who show up, and who believe in the power of connection.
